Another regular Friday evening is here. What plans have you got? Discovering a new restaurant with friends, watching the latest movie at cinema, having a game of badminton or basketball with other fellow students…all sound swell, but INDOOR. Before Shanghai’s winter looming in, how about indulging/challenging yourself with a night walk, together with a group of new and old friends, both Chinese and international, talking about cultures around the world, across city lines, and cultures in the RURAL areas in China and the world.
Based in the city of Shanghai, one of the most exciting and happening metropolises in the world, have you wondered, apart from this fascinating urban style, what's the life like in small villages in rural China?
Have you been to any villages in China? Can you imagine what the life in a village would feel like? Do you know how similar or different it might be from farm life back in your hometown? Are you curious what the urban Chinese young people think about the countryside, and how connected (or not) they are with the rural side of China? What do they think of the world?
Join us for a walk next Friday evening, to learn from the experts at Beyond The City on above topics. Over the past 3 years, Beyond The City has taken over 3,000 urban young people to various villages in China, and over 300 village youth to Shanghai and Chengdu in return. Thousands of stories are there to share.
There will be a mixed group of both international and local young people, so you will get to know the city and meet new friends, while scrolling through the bustle and hustle of night Shanghai.
Starting off from Zhongshan Park, we walk along the Yuyuan Road, dotted by coffee shops, restaurants, and stylish office spaces, then connect to the famous Nanjing Road from the west to the east, cutting through the heart of the city, People's Square, then meandering across the Suzhou Creek up and down, until we hit our destination, the one and only Bund.
We make a few stops at some Family Marts or Lawsons, to have several ‘Lawsons creek’ style of drinking breaks, to change up the paces.
A walk in cool breezes, stylish streets that you hardly paid attention to during the busy daytime, new and old friends, Lawsons Creek drinks, Suzhou Creek, Nanjing Road, and the Bund. What else are you waiting for?
